The Isle of Axholme Fencing Club was formed in December 2000. In the first instance it was run solely by the coach Dave Jerry, following successful taster sessions held in Epworth Leisure centre in October of that year. The first training sessions were held in the Wesley Memorial Church Hall but the interest soon out grew that venue and by February a move was made the Haxey Primary School hall. Initially only Foil was catered for but the other two weapons soon began to hold fencer’s interest. We now have a strong following for Foil Epee and Sabre. During the next two years the club went from strength frequently attracting fencers from as far afield as Sheffield and Hull, in fact more than half the membership live outside the Isle.

In February 2003 a working group met to discuss the idea of developing the club into a more homogeneous group. It had always been the intent of Dave jerry the Coach to have a Committee run the club while he concentrated on the coaching at Axholme and at the other clubs in which he is involved. That working group submitted a bid to the National Lottery for an Awards for All grant. The final out come was successful and the club is now reaping the benefit from a cash inject of £5000. In March 2004 the first Annual General Meeting was held and a committee formally elected comprising of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.
The club is still going from strength to strength and anticipates purchasing more scoring apparatus and competition standard clothing to encourage more of our younger members to enter competitions.
